From After Effects to the web
In After Effects, add your comp to the Render Queue, choose QuickTime with Apple ProRes 4444 and set Channels to RGB + Alpha. Drop that MOV here.
A ProRes master of a few seconds can be 100 MB+; the transparent WebM is usually under a few megabytes and plays in Chrome, Firefox and Edge.
Frequently asked questions
My WebM is not transparent — why?
Check the MOV was exported with RGB + Alpha, and that Transparency is switched on. Then view it in Chrome, not Safari or QuickTime.
Does this work with Premiere and Final Cut exports?
Yes, any MOV with an alpha channel works.
Why is transparent WebM slow to render?
VP9 alpha encodes two streams. Run the optional native helper for much faster rendering.
