Or

A web video converter in both senses: it makes video for the web, and it runs on the web — FFmpeg compiled to WebAssembly, working inside your browser tab.

How to use the Web Video Converter

  1. Add your video filesDrag them onto the drop zone above, or click to browse. Add as many as you like — they stay on your computer.
  2. Tune the settingsPick WebM, MP4 or GIF — hover another format and press + to render several at once. Set quality, frame rate and scale. Leave Transparency on to keep any alpha channel.
  3. Convert and downloadClick Convert. Each finished WebM, MP4 or GIF file gets its own download button, or grab everything with Download all.

How in-browser conversion works

Rewwwrap loads a WebAssembly build of FFmpeg once (about 25 MB, cached afterwards) and runs it on your own CPU. That is why it works with confidential footage and has no upload wait.

For even faster MP4 and WebM encoding, an optional native helper lets the page use a full FFmpeg installed on your computer.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work offline?

After the first load, conversion itself happens locally, though the page needs to be opened online.

Which browsers are supported?

Current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop.

Is it slower than desktop software?

WebAssembly is a little slower than native code; the optional helper closes the gap.
